THE OFFICIAL SDS FORUMS RULES
(Mandatory reading for new members!)

I. A NOTE TO MEMBERS. If you read a post that violates one of these rules, you can report it to the moderators by clicking the Image button in the top right corner of every post.

II. THE WARNING SYSTEM.
(Strikes kept track of in the non-viewable Admin's section.)

First strike - the post PM'd with a warning.
Second strike - temporarily banned or put under moderation - severity depending on the rules broken.
Third strike (strike after temporary ban or moderation) - permanent ban.

III. POSTING.

A. GENERAL -
i. Do not double-post. Self-explanatory, really. There's an edit button, you know, and you can use it anytime you want.
ii. Use proper grammar. I can't stress this enough. We are not four year olds, we are not from MySpace and I know we've all taken at least 6th grade English. We want to look as professional as possible, so any member whose post has more than four deliberate mistakes will receive a warning.
iii. Do not spam! This means, basically, "Short Pointless Annoying Messages". While we trust most to use good judgement, some cannot, so we'll make it simple - don't just say "I agree" and nothing more. Contribute to the discussion. Say why you agree so people can perhaps agree further or disagree. A thread is born this way.
iv. Stay on topic. If the topic is cats, do not randomly post about dogs. The threads can slowly stray off topic from cats to dogs, but don't expect it to stay that way for long.

B. OBSCENITY -
i. Please keep things PG level or so. No in-depth discussions (and pictures, really) of sexual orientation or anything else that you wouldn't find on the Disney Channel. We have a Restricted Forum for this. You can be suggestive, but don't go overboard with it.
ii. This also means no cursing above crap/hell level and using remarks considered racist or intolerant, as well. The administrators trust members to use good judgement when posting.

C. FLAMING -
i. First and foremost, at SDS flaming is defined as a groundless insult with nothing positive to it. Two or so insults that are between friends and are generally joking don't count. And while heated debates can get semi-flamelike, no warnings will be handed out unless it turns into a straight out "you're stupid" "well, you have a crappy avatar!" fest.
ii. Flame-baiting and mod-baiting is not allowed. Flame-baiting is purposely posting a comment in order to receive negative attention from members, and mod-baiting is relatively the same, except breaking rules to annoy the mods and admins.

IV. OTHER.

i. A list of admins and mods can be found here.
ii. Do not mouth off to said admins and mods - they have the power to take care of you, after all, and they're your authority. They are also free to break most rules, as long as they are not seen as going overboard by members/other people of rank.
iii. Signature requirements can be found here.

TK stole this from RS.net for us:

and yes I got it from Rs.net

Argue the point, not the person.

This means:

Respect the viewpoint of the person you're arguing with. They might know something you don't. And this person has feelings just like you do.

If you don't agree with what they're saying, tell them. But do it politely.

Stick to the topic - don't bring in old grievances or unresolved discussions/arguments.

No personal insults or rants or attacks, period.

Back up your statement with why you feel that way.

Don't proselytize - be open to views other than your own.

Discussions involve give and take: learning something you might not have considered earlier, and providing an opportunity for others to change their opinions. If you find yourself bouncing the same arguments back and forth, with neither side accepting the other's position, it's time to go into your respective corners and spit out the mouthguards. Then find another conversation where you're not in danger of bloodying brick walls with your forehead.
